What about technical support ?
Lemac's Sydney service center can handle all AMINIMA service issues
I heard there were positive films for A-Minima, is that true ?
No it's not. Right now the only films available are all listed on Kodak's site.
What size magazines can I put on it?
The A-minima is currently only fitted for 200' size spool. The very construction of the camera makes driving any other spool
diameter impossible. But we can foresee the availability of polyester based film, making the lengh of the film 40% longer.
Is the A-Minima audio sync ?
Not only (crystal controlled) audio-sync. But moreover it records AatonCode II, making it a perfect solution for slateless
shooting.
I'm looking for a small 16 standard camera.
The A-Minima lens port, gate and viewfinder are super16 centered. But no one's stopping you from shooting standard 16
(there is a standard 16 sub-frame in the viewfinder) provided the telecine operator receives the proper instructions to only
scan the standard 16 part of the negative.
Can the A-minima work as a standard 16mm camera ?
Yes.
With a Super 16 camera like the A-Minima, even if I use a standard 16mm lens such as an ARRI T3, because the gate has
been enlarged for Super 16MM, I believe I will expose the film on the area required by the optical track. Is this correct ?
That's correct for the negative only!
but since this area is not illuminated in a standard 16 printer, remains a virgin space for the sound track, exactly as if you
were shooting St16!
And if it is, is there any chance that you can provide an interchangeable gate for the A-Minima - a standard gate and a Super
16 gate.
What we do is to put standard 16 marks in the viewing screen. It's less expensive to get a Super16 gate (knowing the extra
unused film area will not be printed, thus never seen) so we do not make a standard16 gate.
And the day you decide to shoot Super16, or sell your camera, you will be happy to have this gate from day one!
Not everyone wants to a) blow up to 35 from 16mm, or b) edit with Avid, and if they do edit with Avid that can be done using a
standard 16mm camera.
Agreed! that's why we give that possibility with the St16 frame in the viewfinder.
How ideal is it for film making.
This camera brings a new relationship between the operator and its instrument, making it possible to experiment more, invent
new ways to shoot, new angles etc..
Is there a possibility for a remote control on/off ?
Yes. There is a small accessory cable which allows control of the camera
Is it possible to get a BNC output of the LCD ?
Out of the video assist, there is a BNC for VTR and/or big monitor and lemo with power/video to an LCD on-board screen.
Beside the speed mentioned in the manual is it possible to shoot f.i. 72 fps ?
No. 50fps is the very maximum (using AMINIMA NiMh batteries or external 12v - not with disposable batteries ).
Is there a CCU for this camera ?
Yes. A-Minima accepts an Aaton designed black/white video tap, directly mounted onto the assistant's side.
Beside Kodak does Fuiji also delivers the special stock ?
Nope. Only Kodak is available since they handled the tooling of the special spool flanges.
